A stay at HI San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf means you’ve got everything at your fingertips. Being in the historic Fort Mason, a former military post, means that travelers have access to a wealth of museums and eateries, as well as stunning views of the San Francisco Bay on one side, and the sprawl of the city on the other. Plus, there’s always something exciting happening within the park.

Oh, food! Sure, the main reason we eat is for fuel for our bodies, but the reason we enjoy eating is because, well, good food tastes so good! One of the many delights of travel is that you get to indulge in the new scents and flavors of different cities and discover a new favorite thing to stuff your face with.

Sitting between the two pop-culture powerhouse cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco, Monterey might not stand out as a pioneer town for anything except gorgeous beaches and laid-back living. But in truth, this is a town of firsts: it has California’s first state historic monument, it was where the Golden State’s first newspaper was printed, and it’s also home to California’s first state theater.

The Point Reyes National Seashore is known as a refuge for those who are looking to escape the chaos and calamity of everyday life. Within the expanse of the park, you get the serenity of green trees and shrubs on the hills and the calming magic of the ocean that stretches out forever, so a stay at HI Point Reyes hostel feels like a soul-cleansing retreat. With all this nature for inspiration, it makes sense that the little nearby town of Point Reyes Station is also quite the haven for artists.

You know how when you see a cute baby seal in pictures or in real life you wish you could just pick it up and take it home? Since you can’t actually do that, we did the next best thing, which was to adopt two young Pacific Harbor seals from the Marine Mammal Center.
